Review of Council Representation - Discussion Paper

The Shire is undertaking a review of its Council representation to ensure it remains appropriate, effective and reflective of our community.

Currently, the Council consists of 9 Elected Members. We are seeking community feedback on whether this number should remain the same or be adjusted to 8, 7, 6 or 5 Councillors. A discussion paper has been prepared to support this process, which outlines the current structure, key considerations, and the range of possible options so community members can provide informed feedback.

This is your opportunity to help shape how the Shire is represented into the future.

Consultation Close: 4:00pm, Monday 13 July 2026

What we want to learn

Through this consultation, we are seeking your views on:

  • What number of Councillors best represents the needs of the community
  • Whether the current structure is effective
  • Any benefits or concerns about increasing or reducing Councillor numbers
  • Broader perspectives on representation and community access

About the Discussion Paper

The Discussion Paper has been developed to present balanced and unbiased information. It doesn’t recommend a preferred option. Instead, it is designed to help the community objectively consider:

  • Current Council representation arrangements
  • The review process and legislative requirements
  • Key factors influencing representation
  • A range of possible scenarios (5-9 Councillors)
  • The advantages and disadvantages of each option
