Donnybrook Community Library

The Donnybrook Community Library is a joint venture between the Shire of Donnybrook Balingup and the Department of Education. Located on the school grounds of Donnybrook District High School, the library serves both the public and students alike. It has been serving the community under the State Library Scheme since 1954, operating from the Shire offices and was the second library in WA to join the scheme.

Balingup Public Library

The Balingup Public Library was established in 1958 and is located in part of the Balingup Town Hall.

We are open:

With its ever-expanding collection of physical material, access to 23 other libraries’ material though the South West Library Consortia and allowing you to access digital resources from the comfort of your home, our libraries cater to all ages, from young children discovering the joy of reading to adults seeking to expand their horizons. In addition to its physical resources, our libraries also offer eBooks, eAudiobooks, and much more that patrons can access from the comfort of their homes.

Our welcoming staff are always on hand to assist with whatever you need and provide a friendly face to all who walk through the doors.

The Donnybrook & Balingup Library Services are more than just places to borrow books; they are places where knowledge is shared, creativity is nurtured and connections are made.

Library Memberships

Full Memberships:

An adult, student, junior and young adult full membership allows you to borrow up to 30 items across the consortia for up to three (3) weeks. DVDs are limited to ten (10). 

You can also join online with a temporary account until you can make it to the library - just click the link below to get started!

Online Registrations

 

Outreach Memberships:

Includes book club and Home Delivery outreach, which allows you to borrow up to 50 items across the consortia for up to 42 days. DVDs are limited to ten (10).

 

Temporary Memberships:

This includes short-term residents, with a temporary membership allowing you to borrow up to five (5) items across the consortia for up to three (3) weeks.

 

Reminders will be sent if an item is getting close to being due or is overdue and has not been renewed or returned.

Damaged Items

Please remember that you are responsible for returning items in good condition – returned in the same condition as they were borrowed. Charges will apply for lost or damaged items. We realise that minor damage can sometimes inadvertently occur so please let us know if items have been damaged when they are returned. Our trained staff can repair minor damage. 

Room Hire

The Donnybrook Community Library offers hirable rooms for community, individual or business use. Our meeting room can be used for small meetings or if you want a private place to work. Our seminar room is great for large functions or fitness sessions. Both can be hired along with our kitchen if needed.

Housebound Activities

Unable to make it to the library due to illness, age or disability? Let the library come to you! We deliver a variety of formats including books (fiction and non-fiction in both regular and large print), audiobooks, magazines, DVDs and Navigators, a device made for those with poor or failing eyesight that read books aloud.

We’ll have staff talk to you to find out your preferences including, genre, authors, format and amount of items. Once a fortnight we will deliver your items to your address. This service is also available to those staying at the Donnybrook Hospital and Tuia Lodge.

Our online library lets any library member browse for all items available within the consortium, renew checked out items and place holds.

South West Library Consortia

The South West Library Constortia is the first of its kind in Western Australia and connects 25 libraries throughout the South West.

This allows you to browse material online, place holds, checkout and drop off items from any library with any item within the Consortia.

As of July 2023, the Consortia has split into two Hubs. You can place holds on items from any library within our Hub (Hub two). If you want to order an item from outside of the Hub, please contact the library.

Please note that we are unable to place holds or return any items from Boddington Library.

Inter-library Loans

If you can’t find what you are looking for within the Consortia or via our eResource apps, you may be able to order an inter library loan. Public Library Services WA have a combined stock of over two million items that can be requested through the library.

Please note that this service is subject to regulations and we can’t guarantee that we will be able to supply items.

e-Resources

As well as our physical materials, you can also access a plethora of materials online. Read ebooks, listen to audiobooks or music and watch TV shows and movies all with your library card!

 

BorrowBox

An easy to use platform that allows you to download eBooks, eMagazines and eAudiobooks to your computer or mobile device. You can loan up to six eBooks, six eAudiobooks and 10 eMagazines at one time for up to 14 days.

Hoopla is a digital media service that allows library members to borrow movies, TV shows, music, eAudiobooks, eBooks and comics to enjoy on their computer or mobile device. You can borrow up to six items per month for up to 21 days for most items.

Kanopy is a video-streaming platform delivering one of the largest collections of indie films, classic cinema, and educational documentaries, entirely for free to public library members. Watch up to eight movies or TV shows per month.

Overdrive Kids

OverDrive eReading Room just for kids provides a safe and easy browsing experience for children. The eReading Room only shows items suitable for children, where they can browse, place holds and borrow eBooks appropriate for their age range and reading level. (Requires a library card to access)

Storytime

Every Thursday and Friday at 10:30am during school terms at the Donnybrook Library.

Storytime introduces you and your child to a wide range of quality books, sing alongs and fun activities! Join us to assist in enriching and extending your child’s vocabulary and imagination as well as providing a solid foundation for the development of reading skills.
