As we enter the Restricted Burning Period (1 November – 14 December), the Shire wishes to remind all residents of the various requirements in place during this time:
- Permits are required for burning activities during this time. Please contact your local Fire Control Officer to obtain a permit before lighting any fires.
- During this period, between 6pm and 11pm, you are permitted to burn Garden Refuse on properties over 2000sqm, you are also required to register your burn with DFES by calling (08) 9395 9209.
- When a Total Fire Ban or Harvest & Vehicle Movement Ban has been declared or the Fire Danger Rating (FDR) is High or above, it is illegal to carry out any activity that is likely to cause a fire regardless of the burning period.
When burning Garden Refuse, remember:
- Light after 6pm, don’t add any garden waste after 11pm, and ensure it’s extinguished by midnight
- Only 1 pile at a time, max 1m³ (ensure to clear 3m around the pile)
- Have water ready and stay with your fire until it’s out (must be extinguished by midnight)
- Notify your neighbours of your planned burn at least 72hrs (3 days) in advance
- Register your burn with DFES: (08) 9395 9209
Don’t wait until it’s too late – are you ready for bushfire season? It’s important to plan ahead for emergency situations, especially if you live in areas prone to natural disasters. It could save you and your family’s life.
