Published on Tuesday, 5 May 2026 at 9:00:00 AM

The Shire of Donnybrook Balingup has appointed Otium Planning Group to undertake the Balingup Recreational and Sporting Master Plan.

The intent of the Master Plan is to assess the future sport and recreational needs of Balingup residents having regard to current facility provision and potential gaps which need to be addressed. The intent is to ensure that any planned future development provides both contemporary and viable facilities for the whole community. As part of the process, Otium Planning Group representatives are meeting initially with Balingup facility user groups to obtain views of existing facilities and the need for any future development. This will be undertaken in Balingup between the 5th and 7th of May.

The information the consultants are seeking information on include:

  • Current facility usage by individuals, clubs and groups.
  • The extent of the facilities that are used and the facility components that work well / could be improved.
  • Clarifying the future needs of user groups / individuals / organisations.
  • Identifying the capacity for each of the user groups to deliver expanded activities/services.
  • Clarifying current site and access inhibiters which adversely impact on clubs/association/ group’s ability to deliver their desired activities / services and how could this be addressed by future improvements / alterations / additions / redevelopment.
  • Exploring the long-term vision and aspirations related to user groups.

There will also be a public drop-in session on the Wednesday 6 May from 3:30pm - 6:30pm at the Balingup Recreation Centre for the general community to call-in and meet the consultancy team and express any initial concerns/opinions on current infrastructure. This process will inform the development of a community survey which will be provided online after the initial consultation process has been undertaken. This will be distributed widely and incorporate a range of facility development options to ascertain the relative priorities for future investment of the Balingup community.
