Appointment of Temporary CEO, Garry Hunt

Following the conclusion of the October Ordinary Council Meeting, Garry Hunt has been appointed as the temporary CEO for the Shire of Donnybrook Balingup.

Mr Hunt will commence on Monday 13 November 2023 in the role of Temporary Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for the Shire, for an initial period of 6 months.

With an extensive career spanning over 45 years in the local government sector, including 30 plus years as a CEO, Mr Hunt brings a wealth of knowledge and practical experience in local government operations and collaboration with Councillors. Having worked in city and country local governments, Mr Hunt has a solid understanding of the issues facing our Council and community.

Whilst we are still operating in a Caretaker Period, an exemption has been made as the appointment of a Temporary CEO is necessary to ensure the fulfilment of the statutory position and the continued operations of the Shire. Commissioner McGowan has engaged in external consultations with the Department of Local Government Sport and Cultural Industries (DLGSCI) and the responsible Minister to define the skills, knowledge, and experience required to guide the incoming Council. This will include the invaluable advice and collaborative effort needed throughout the recruitment and selection process for the Shire’s vacant CEO’s position.
