STORM DAMAGE & YOUR SAFETY

Published on Monday, 21 July 2025 at 10:00:00 AM

Several trees have fallen around the Donnybrook townsite following the severe weather that hit the southwest over the weekend, resulting in the closure of some carparks. This may take several days, however rest assured that our outdoor staff are working hard to get them reopened as soon as possible.

The Apple Fun Park was temporarily closed as a shade sail was damaged during the weather, however has since reopened.

All pedestrians are asked to take caution when using or passing by the Donnybrook Amphitheatre along the Preston River at Apex Park. Staff are currently assessing the damage to the trees and making the area safe.

While the dangers of a storm can’t be prevented, you can prepare and reduce the amount of damage a storm can cause. Here's what you can do to prepare:

  • Prepare a storm plan - make sure everyone knows what to do
  • Prepare an emergency kit - keep in mind that you may lose power and other essential services for some days during and/or after a severe storm
  • Prepare your pets & livestock - ensure that your pets are registered and microchipped, and have a name tag to help identify them in case they go missing
  • Prepare your property - ensure branches and trees are trimmed around structures and powerlines

When a storm is passing through, it’s best that you, your household and your pets stay indoors. Here's what you can do during a storm:

  • Follow directions on how to stay safe in the official warning issued by DFES via Emergency WA
  • Stay indoors, avoid being on the road and park your car undercover - if you must travel, ensure you've planned ahead and stay as safe as possible
  • In life-threatening situations, call 000
