At the Ordinary Council Meeting held 27 August 2025, Council received the Donnybrook Clock Tower Proposal, acknowledging support for the initiative in principle. Council also resolved to seek the community’s views on the proposal prior to providing full approval for the project.
This Project proposes to provide a landmark structure that recognises the early pioneers who developed quarries and worked with Donnybrook stone to construct numerous buildings in Donnybrook, and around WA. It is intended to be constructed using Donnybrook stone at a preferred site in Ayers Garden (SW Hwy) where the “Quercus Palustris” tree was planted by the Donnybrook Community in recognition of the redevelopment of the central business district. The proposed location will require removal of the aforementioned tree and plaque that commemorates the redevelopment of the central business district in 2000.
The Proposal outlines that the Donnybrook Clock Tower will be built using private and grant funding secured by the Town Clock Committee (the applicant). This includes all material costs, construction, and short-term maintenance. The Shire will not be funding the build – instead, the Shire will support the project by providing general oversight and project management during development. Once the Tower is complete, long-term maintenance and future renewal of the structure will become the responsibility of Council, as it will be managed as a community asset.
The Donnybrook Clock Tower Proposal may be inspected at, or obtained from, the Shire’s Administration Office and the Shire’s website. Comments may be made to the Chief Executive Officer, Shire of Donnybrook Balingup, via any of the following methods. Submissions are due by 4:00pm (AWST) on Friday 3 October 2025.
