You’ll now find new Containers for Change baskets attached to the bins around the Apple Fun Park and Ayres Garden, making it easier to drop in your eligible 10c containers while you’re out enjoying the playground and surrounding area. They will help keep the parks tidy, reduce waste, and support WA’s container recycling program, which has already recovered more than 4.5 billion drink containers across the state.
What are Container Exchange Points?
They’re baskets fixed to public bins where you can leave eligible 10c containers instead of putting them in general waste. Anyone can collect the containers from these baskets and return them through Containers for Change, giving each container the chance to be recycled and live another life.
Small, everyday actions like this help protect our environment and keep our community spaces looking their best – thank you for helping us care for our beautiful environment. Let’s keep making simple choices that make a big difference!
Quote from Shire President Vivienne MacCarthy:
The new Containers for Change baskets are a simple but meaningful addition to Apple Fun Park and Ayres Garden, and they reflect what makes our Shire special — a community that genuinely cares for its shared spaces and environment. By making it easier to recycle while families and visitors enjoy our parks, more containers can be kept out of landfill and returned through WA’s Containers for Change scheme. It’s these small, everyday actions that help protect the beauty of our Shire and support a more sustainable future.
