About the Volunteer Camp Host Program

This is an opportunity for volunteers to stay at one of the Shire’s Transit Parks, contributing their time to assist visitors and support the general operation of the facility as a Camp Host. This is best suited for experienced campers or caravanners who enjoy meeting people, sharing local knowledge and being part of a community.

• Minimum stay: 4 weeks
• Maximum stay: Up to 3 months

Hosting opportunities are available throughout the year, with increased demand during peak travel and holiday periods.

Hosting durations are flexible and will be agreed with the Shire prior to commencement. This commitment period aligns with established campground host programs in Western Australia and ensures continuity and consistency for visitors.

What do Camp Hosts do?

Camp Hosts play an important role in supporting a welcoming, safe and enjoyable experience for visitors to our popular Transit Parks, while also assisting the Shire with the day‑to‑day oversight of the facilities. As a Camp Host, volunteers may be asked to assist with the following:

• Welcoming visitors and providing general information about the transit park, local amenities and attractions
• Acting as a visible, friendly point of contact for campers
• Monitoring general site conditions and reporting maintenance or safety issues to Shire staff
• Assisting with basic housekeeping oversight of the site (e.g. amenities presentation, signage awareness)
• Promoting respectful use of facilities and adherence to transit park conditions
• Supporting a safe, inclusive and welcoming environment for all users

Camp Hosts are not responsible for enforcement activities and do not replace routine Shire maintenance or compliance functions.

What are we looking for?

Camp Hosts should ideally demonstrate:

• Experience with camping, caravanning or self‑contained travel
• A friendly and approachable manner with strong communication skills
• Willingness to engage with a diverse range of travellers and visitors
• Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgement
• Physical capability to conduct light, routine site observations
• A genuine interest in community, tourism and supporting visitor experiences

What do Camp Hosts need to provide?

As a Camp Host, you will need to have:

• Your own self‑contained caravan, camper or motorhome
• Availability to commit to the agreed hosting period
• Willingness to undertake a basic induction with Shire staff

A National Police Clearance may also be requested prior to commencement.

What’s provided to Camp Hosts?

This is a great opportunity to contribute to the local community while enjoying the South West lifestyle! As a Camp Host, you will also be provided with:

• A designated site at the relevant transit park for the duration of your hosting period
• Support and point‑of‑contact from Shire staff
