Preston River REOPENED

Published on Thursday, 30 April 2026 at 10:00:00 AM

The area is available for public access as normal, however please be aware that our outdoor staff are still in the area to finish wrapping up

Interruptions are expected to be minimal - thank you for your cooperation

The Shire of Donnybrook Balingup advises that the Preston River Walk has now been reopened to the public following its temporary closure due to safety concerns arising from the recent storms.

The severe weather resulted in fallen branches, debris, and general storm damage along the trail, requiring the area to be closed while safety assessments and clean up operations were carried out. Shire staff, working in collaboration with local contractors, have been on site throughout the week to remove debris, restore safe access, and ensure the walk trail meets all safety requirements prior to reopening.

Please note that some minor works will continue into next week as crews complete final clean up tasks and give the area a thorough final inspection. These works are not expected to impact public access.

The Shire appreciates the community’s patience and understanding during the closure and welcomes residents and visitors back to enjoy the Preston River Walk.

The following information was published on Tuesday 21 April:

The eastern foreshore of the Preston River is currently closed due to fallen trees and debris, following last night's stormy weather.

Shire crews will be on site assessing and cleaning up the area as quickly as possible, with works progressing safely as conditions allow. Crew safety is essential while recovery works are underway.

Our priority is community safety. Please avoid the closed area, take care when travelling nearby, and follow any signage or directions in place. Thank you for your patience and cooperation while crews work to make the area safe again.
