Opportunity for Landowners: Saving native species in Wellington National Park

Do you want to help protect our native wildlife? Do you own property near the southern boundary of the Wellington National Park? You may be eligible to participate in this project and help to save our native species!

South West Natural Resource Management (NRM) and the Leschenault Catchment Council (LCC), with on-ground support from Leschenault Biosecurity Group, have joined forces in a collaborative project to specifically target and control the populations of feral pigs, feral cats, and foxes on properties proximal to the southern boundary of the Wellington National Park. By reducing the number of these invasive predators, we can better protect our native wildlife.

Participation in this program is free for eligible landholders, thanks to a grant from the Australian Government’s Saving Native Species Program. If you own or manage land close to the southern boundary of the Wellington National Park, contact the LCC and join them in safeguarding our native species and ongoing biodiversity in our beautiful and unique area.

 

Participating landholders receive:

  • Property assessments by ecologists to identify biodiversity values and any associated threats,
  • Bush management advice,
  • Provision and set-up of two (2) remote cameras for monitoring,
  • Feral animal control training via special events,
  • Feral animal control (based on property assessment and landholder capabilities) by a licenced pest technician,
  • Project wrap-up event to explore results and learnings, and to discuss ongoing feral animal control measures.
