Independent Presiding Member Independent Member – Deputy of the Presiding Member Audit, Risk and Improvement Committee (ARIC)
The Shire of Donnybrook Balingup is seeking Expressions of Interest from suitably qualified and experienced individuals to join its Audit, Risk and Improvement Committee (ARIC) as:
- Independent Presiding Member; and/or
- Independent Member – Deputy of the Presiding Member
About the Committee
The ARIC is a formally appointed committee of Council that provides independent oversight and assurance in relation to audit, risk management, financial reporting, legislative compliance and continuous improvement.
About the Roles
The Independent Presiding Member leads the Committee and oversees the planning, conduct and effectiveness of meetings.
The Independent Member – Deputy of the Presiding Member is appointed to act in the role of Presiding Member when the Presiding Member is unavailable. This role does not involve an ongoing support or assistant function. When acting in the role, the Independent Member – Deputy of the Presiding Member assumes all responsibilities of the Presiding Member for the relevant meeting(s), including chairing meetings and overseeing the conduct of Committee business. This is not a separate Deputy Presiding Member position, but a contingent role exercised by an independent committee member in accordance with the adopted Terms of Reference and Local Government Act 1995.
Both roles are advisory and oversight in nature and do not involve operational or executive decision making.
What We’re Looking For
Applicants will have current qualifications and/or be able to demonstrate extensive senior‑level experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Financial management
- Audit and assurance
- Governance, compliance
- Risk Management
- Fraud, cyber security, internal controls.
You will bring strong judgement, independence of thought, and the ability to contribute constructively in an oversight environment.
Eligibility and Independence
Applicants:
- Must be a natural person, who is either an Australian Citizen, or a Permanent Resident. Companies or other corporate entities are not eligible.
- Must not be a councillor of any local government.
- Must not be an employee of the Shire of Donnybrook Balingup.
- Must not have been subject to bankruptcy or insolvency proceedings under the Bankruptcy Act 1966 (Cth).
- Must not have been convicted of a serious local government offence; or convicted of a criminal offence for which the indictable penalty was or included imprisonment for more than five (5) years.
Time Commitment and Remuneration
The Committee meets at least quarterly. Sitting fees and reimbursements apply in accordance with Council policy.
