The VC Mitchell Park (VCMP) Community Club Project has reached a milestone, with construction 50% complete and current works progressing on schedule with no delays.
We are pleased to share that the construction and renewal of the two Community Club Pavilions have reached a major milestone, with the roof sheeting now installed on both buildings. The importance of the 50% completion stage cannot be understated. With the roof sheeting in place, the Pavilions are now protected from the elements, which enables uninterrupted progress on internal works throughout the winter. This milestone also unlocks the following crucial funding payments:
- Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries (DLGSCI): $3.4m +GST, as part payment of the total funding commitment of $6m +GST.
- Talison Lithium Pty Ltd: $1.2m +GST, as part payment of the total funding commitment of $3m +GST.
The contractor’s works are progressing on schedule and without delay. Current work fronts include the installation of mechanical equipment, services prelay, completion of structural elements, and the commencement of finishings such as wall tiling. Additionally, other significant site works are underway, including the infrastructure for the new oval lighting and preliminary works for upcoming Western Power upgrades*. The next significant milestone is the practical completion, which is currently planned for early November 2024. These works have been possible thanks to the contributions of the DLGSCI, Talison Lithium, and the WA Football Commission (WAFC). The Community Club precinct will offer versatile function spaces for events large and small, inclusive community access, will feature environmental landscaping, upgraded drainage, new car parks with disabled access, and spaces for families to enjoy; a welcoming and functional environment for all.
Comments from Shire President Vivienne MacCarthy:
In reaching this significant milestone, I acknowledge the generous contributions of our funding partners, the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, Talison Lithium, and the WA Football Commission. I also acknowledge the important input from community members who make up the Project Consultation Group. It’s wonderful to see the collaborative efforts of funding partners, community members and project construction, coming together to achieve this important 50% step toward completion. Eyes forward to November 2024 when the new VC Mitchell Park Community Precinct will offer improved social and sporting amenity for all members of our community, for decades to come.
Comments from Craig Dawson, General Manager of Talison Lithium:
Talison is proud to play a part in the delivery of this important community facility and we congratulate all project partners on the achievement of this 50% construction completion milestone in the VC Mitchell Park project. The transformation of the original sporting facility and clubrooms into an integrated sporting precinct will serve the community needs now and well into the future. We look forward to the coming months as the project continues to progress.
ENDS.
