Today, on 14 December 2022, Minister Carey issued new instructions and updates regarding the Council of Donnybrook Balingup.

Since 1 December 2022, when five of the total nine Council Members of Donnybrook Balingup's Council resigned (effective immediately on that date), we have been liaising with the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries (DLSFC) for advice and assistance in navigating this situation.

Today, Minister Carey issued the following information in a media statement:

• Former senior public sector leader Gail McGowan PSM is to be appointed as Commisioner at the Shire of Donnybrook Balingup
• The remaining four Council positions have been declared vacant, and the Commissioner will perform the duties of the council until a new Council is elected
  • It is anticipated that a new Council will be elected during the scheduled October 2023 local government elections

Ms McGowan will formally commence as Commissioner next week.
