Donnybrook Recreation Centre Hosts Pool Lifeguard Course

Published on Wednesday, 4 May 2022 at 12:42:20 PM

The Donnybrook Recreation Centre will be hosting the only four-day Pool Lifeguard Training in the South West from May 24 – 27.

Given the ongoing shortage of pool lifeguards throughout the entire region, this training poses a great career opportunity for locals looking to expand their careers. Ordinarily anyone interesting in becoming a qualified Pool Lifeguard would have to drive to Perth for the four-day training.

Whilst the course costs over $500 per student, it is FREE to people who qualify under the Skills Ready Program.

However, to open up the opportunity to local persons who don’t fit the Skills Ready Program Requirements, the Shire of Donnybrook Balingup will be offering five fully paid course scholarships to locals interesting in gaining their pool lifeguard qualifications.

Scholarship Details

To apply for the scholarship you must:

  1. Be 16 years or older
  2. Reside in the Shire of Donnybrook Balingup
  3. Submit a 250-500 word application to recreation.centre@donnybrook.wa.gov.au, explaining why you’d like to become a Pool Lifeguard
  4. Applications must be received by midnight Friday 13th May

We understand a four-day course is a major time commitment, so to make this opportunity as accessible as possible the Shire will also provide FREE creche services at the Recreation Centre for the duration of the course.

To learn more about the course, check your eligibility for the FREE Skills Ready Program, and to enrol, please visit: Royal Lifesaving WA

As the Donnybrook Recreation Centre is currently hiring for a Pool Lifeguard, all people who successfully complete this course will be guaranteed an interview for the role. For more details on the exciting career opportunity, click here.
