The opportunity

The Shire’s Supervisor - Parks & Gardens will be responsible for the day-to-day supervision and management of our Parks and Gardens team. You will play a key role in ensuring the efficient and effective maintenance and improvement of the Shire's parks, gardens, and other green spaces.

Key responsibilities

• Direct and supervise a team of parks and gardens staff in the undertaking of works.
• Ensure staff adhere to safety procedures and quality standards, including the proper use and maintenance of equipment, tools, and machinery
• Assist in the oversight of contractors engaged to undertake tasks, including cleaning contractors who maintain the Shire’s public toilets.
• Assist in the review and development of operational plans and levels of service for Parks and Gardens.
• Investigate and report on external works requests, plus coordinate any identified repairs works.
• Provide input into various Council and Shire plans, including the Shire’s annual budget process.
• Complete administrative duties, including timesheets, purchase orders, and safety reports.
• Undertake procurement in accordance with Shire policies, procedures and delegations.

What we're looking for

• Substantial experience in the supervision and management of parks and gardens maintenance teams
• Strong knowledge of horticulture, landscaping, and grounds maintenance practices
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to liaise with stakeholders at all levels
• Sound understanding of relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations
• Trade Certificate in Horticulture (or associated field) and/or extensive experience in amenity horticulture.
