Responsibilities
- To perform tasks under the direction of the Supervisor Parks and Gardens to preserve, maintain and improve Shire infrastructure, equipment and land, under Shire management.
- To strive for continuous improvement in the workplace and contribute positively as a member of the Works and Services team.
- Be committed to the ethos – 'getting the job done in an efficient, safe and timely manner.'
- To comply with the Shire's risk management and occupational safety and health policies and procedures.
- Promote safety awareness and to ensure a safe working environment for self and others.
- Provide guidance to other workers, and to have input into improving and developing structured maintenance routines.
- Undertake administrative duties, including completion of timesheets, plant pre-start checks, reporting of plant defects and recording of job specific records.
Operational
- Mowing of verges, parks, ovals and reserves.
- Planting and maintaining garden beds (including manual labour and chemical spraying).
- Pruning of street trees and shrubs.
- Undertake watering and maintenance of reticulation systems.
- General horticultural duties, including identifying and addressing plant pests, weeds and flora diseases.
- Various Town site maintenance tasks, including:
- Public rubbish bin waste collection
- Storm water drains maintenance
- Playground inspections and repairs,
- infrastructure repairs
- street sweeping and
- disposal of deceased animals
- Participation in a weekend maintenance roster of Shire public bins
- Weekend maintenance roster participation is required on a monthly basis.
- Grave digging and cemetery maintenance.
- Other duties as specified by the Supervisor Parks and Gardens and /or Co-ordinator Shire Works
About You
- Current 'C' class drivers licence.
- Hold a General Construction Induction White (or Blue) Card
- Demonstrated experience in the effective and efficient use of small and large plant, applicable to the position.
- Minimum 2 years of experience with small and large plant equipment is required.
- Demonstrated ability to work proactively within a team environment.
- A 'MR' class drivers' licence is desirable (or willingness to obtain).
- Any relevant qualifications or certificates to a Parks and Gardens position, including traffic management accreditation are also desirable.
- Australian work rights are required for this position.
