MEDIA RELEASE: Hall & Prior take on management of Tuia Lodge

Published on Friday, 9 July 2021 at 6:08:24 PM

The new management of Tuia Lodge Residential Aged Care Facility came into effect on 1 July 2021, with a smooth transition. Hall & Prior will take over from the Shire of Donnybrook Balingup, assuming the management and operational responsibility of the local Aged Care Service.

Preparations have been underway for some time to make the transition for the aged care residents, their families and staff as seamless as possible. All staff previously working at the facility under the Shire of Donnybrook Balingup will continue working at the facility, now under the employment of Hall & Prior.

The Aged Care Facility will continue to operate under the Tuia Lodge name. Hall & Prior will also continue to work closely with the WA Department of Health and the Shire of Donnybrook Balingup Chief Executive Officer and Council to deliver professional, caring and valued aged care health outcomes for the local community.

Shire of Donnybrook Balingup Chief Executive Officer, Ben Rose, said “A huge vote of thanks goes out to the wonderful staff at Tuia Lodge who have worked above and beyond to make the transition to Hall & Prior a great success. With hundreds of years of collective experience and service, the dedicated staff at Tuia Lodge will surely be the most important asset in the continued success of the much-loved local facility”.

Shire President, Brian Piesse, said of the transition to Hall & Prior “What started as a motion ‘from the floor’ of an Annual Electors Meeting several years ago has concluded as an outstanding outcome for the residents, families and staff of Tuia Lodge, as well as the community more broadly. The professional, robust and consultative approach of the Shire’s Administration to a potentially emotionally charged topic is to be commended, as is the seamless transition of care and business over the past few months in what is perhaps the most complex and regulated sector in Australia. I would also like to personally thank all members of the community who participated last year in the public survey regarding the outsourcing of Tuia Lodge, the responses which were pivotal in guiding the lease terms with Hall & Prior. Last, but by no means least, I would like to recognise the members of the Shire’s Aged Care Community Reference Group, who each volunteered their time and efforts to guide recommendations on this process to the Shire’s Chief Executive Officer and ultimately to Council.”

“We should never forget the enormous contribution by volunteers, community funding support and the management in the formative years of this well respected frail aged facility. Without such, Tuia Lodge would not be what it is today, a stunning Shire asset providing a high quality aged care service to our community,” Cr Piesse said.

Enquiries related to Tuia Lodge can be directed to the facility on 9732 3500, as normal. All other enquiries related to Minninup Cottages, Langley Villas and Preston Retirement Village can be directed to the Shire Administration on 9780 4200.
