The Shire of Donnybrook Balingup has cleaned-up at the Keep Australia Beautiful Council Tidy Towns Sustainable Communities Awards held at Optus Stadium on Friday 26 November.
Shire President Cr Leanne Wringe, Chief Executive Officer Ben Rose and Shire Principal Project Manager Shawn Lombard attended the awards and were present to accept the General Appearance Award for Donnybrook. The award recognises improvements to a community’s general appearance with judges looking at public parks, projects that have enhanced a streetscape and restoration of prominent buildings.
Shire President Cr Leanne Wringe said, “this award is a credit to the efforts by our Council, both past and present, the community and the Shire staff to enhance our Shire. Station Square now provides an open space for the community to enjoy and a central venue for events such as the Food and Wine Festival and Station Markets.”
In June this year, the Donnybrook Goods Shed Heritage Interpretative Centre and Station Square opened. The Royalties for Regions funded project bought to life a space that was previously underused and unattractive. Now, the enlivened space connects the town centre to the Apple Fun Park.
More recently, Donnybrook’s iconic Apple Fun Park reopened after being closed for a major refurbishment that was funded under Round 3 of the Federal Government’s Building Better Regions Fund.
Cr Wringe noted, “these projects have been made possible through State and Federal funding and will provide a much needed boost to the towns tourism industry. Local businesses will benefit from the increased visitation and local community members can now enjoy the invigorated public open space.”
Across the road from the Apple Fun Park, the Donnybrook Pump Track is nearing completion and will further complement Donnybrook’s newly revitalised Town Centre.
