MEDIA RELEASE: AWARE grant to fund 2020 Local Recovery Plan

The Shire of Donnybrook Balingup has been awarded the AWARE grant to fund the review and update of the current Local Recovery Plan.

The grant is being provided as part of the Department of Fire and Emergency Services All West Australian’s Reducing Emergencies (AWARE) program, to enhance WA’s Emergency Management arrangements by investing in capacity building and preparedness activities at a local and/or district level.

The funds will go towards the Shire of Donnybrook Balingup Local Recovery Plan 2020. The 2020 Plan will see updates made across all areas of Emergency Management including response to recovery transition, action checklists, impact assessments and natural disaster relief.

The Shire will engage with local emergency management services to ensure open communication. Shire President Brian Piesse said “the AWARE grant will allow for initiatives to be developed that reduce the impact of disasters on the community. With the support from residents, businesses and local emergency services the Local Recovery Plan will in an all-embracing way, improve the safety and well-being of our community.

The Shire has commenced the review and update of the Local Recovery Plan, the project is due for completion in 2020.
