Residents of Donnybrook’s Minninup Cottages and Langley Villas are soon to enjoy refurbished homes thanks to the approval of a $2.9 million grant from the State Government.

In late January, the Shire of Donnybrook Balingup was successful in its application for funding under the Social Housing Economic Recovery Package (SHERP) Grants Program. The Shire was awarded $2.9 million for refurbishment to update and prolong the life of existing dwellings for tenants of both Minninup Cottages and Langley Villas.

Shire President Cr Leanne Wringe said, “This Shire has a long and proud history of providing facilities and services for the vulnerable, including the aged, in our community. Following this Shire’s significant success in major grant funding over the past five years, we are genuinely excited to be awarded such a large grant to deliver major refurbishments for our existing and future tenants. ”

A total of $57 million in grants was provided to 47 community housing organisations across WA through the SHERP Grants Program, all to be used to refurbish hundreds of community housing properties.

Outside of large not-for-profit organisations, the Shire was successful in securing the largest tranche of funding, with no co-contributions from the Shire required.

The Shire’s Project Team will begin planning shortly, with tenants, once the finer details of the grant are finalised.
