Why train for an obstacle course?

True Grit is coming to Donnybrook again in October! Are you game to give it a try this year?

True Grit is the Australian designed military style obstacle course. The Donnybrook-Newlands military style obstacle course is 10km+ in length, involving over 30 obstacles. The course is designed to test mental strength and endurance by utilising unique obstacles tailored around the vegetation and terrain of the land.

True Grit co-founder, Adam McNamee explains that “True Grit aims to deliver a truly unique experience to those that participate, and the Donnybrook course is one of the best in Australia.”

If you’re keen to give it a go this year, or want to hook up with some other locals to form a team, Donnybrook Recreation Centre is offering you the chance. The True Grit event is being held in Donnybrook on Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th October, 2017.

“Grit Club is held every Monday evening at 6pm at Donnybrook Recreation Centre,” exclaimed Centre Manager, Jill McLean. “This group fitness class is designed as a 12-week pre-event training program in the lead up to the True Grit event. It requires a very different and diverse style of training. It’s not just going to the gym or going for a run, it’s a more functional based training.”

Not only is every muscle in your body being exercised in an event like this, you’re regularly being taken out of your comfort zone, with psychological challenges such as heights, confined spaces and cold water. These mental challenges are something that will improve your mental strength.

“The Grit Club group fitness training caters for people of different levels of fitness. It’s very much about the support and encouragement provided by the group,” explained Ms McLean.
