The magical town of Balingup, in WA’s south west will come alive on Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th July, 2017 for this year’s ‘Telling Tales in Balingup’. A fabulous story telling event perfectly suited to primary school aged children 4yrs – 14yrs.
Smack bang in the middle of the July school holidays, this weekend of story telling, creative writing workshops, illustration workshops and book binding sessions offers families a wonderful weekend of interactive fun.
Last year’s Parade of much loved ‘book characters’ included the Mad Hatter, Queen of Hearts, Peter Pan and Captain Hook – and it was a real hit with the children. The Parade is being expanded this year and will take place on Saturday 12.30pm – 1.30pm.
A host of published WA authors and illustrators including Gabriel Evans Elaine Forrestal, Norman Jorgensen, Cristy Burne and Josh Langley will present interactive workshops throughout the weekend. A number of indigenous artists and story tellers will join the talented line-up this year with Beccy Garlett sure to capture the imagination and interest of big kids and small!
For those who are regular attendees of the event, you might like to try song writing workshop hosted by Sarah and Mary Evans.
A multiple of sessions are on offer at any given time so you can select a session which best suits you and your children. Children will also be able to learn the art of traditional book binding, and take home their very own mini-book.
Balingup is renowned for its fabulous events and is sure to host a weekend worth attending. Balingup is situated at the entrance to the magnificent Blackwood River Valley, a comfortable 2 ½ – 3 hours drive south of Perth.
