The 2019/2020 Draft Budget was adopted by the Shire of Donnybrook Balingup Council at the Special Council Meeting held on Monday 22 July 2019.
Subject to final approval on 21 August 2019, the 2019/2020 Budget will see a rate increase of 1.95%, the lowest percentage increase in many years, and one of the lowest in the south west this year.
Shire President Brian Piesse said “the Council understands the increasing financial pressures experienced by many householders and businesses, and working closely with the Executive Management Team we have made every effort to minimise the rate increase, whilst still maintaining the delivery of local services and meeting community priorities and expectations.”
“All areas of the community will see the benefits of the 2019/2020 budget, with many exciting major projects commencing. There is also a focus on safer roads, emergency services, aged care and enhancing our town sites through road safety and economic and environmental stewardship initiatives.”
Major capital projects in the 2019/2020 budget include the Donnybrook Town Centre Revitalisation Project (currently open for public consultation), the Bridge Street Affordable Housing project and major upgrade works to the Apple Fun Park, and significant expansion to the Tuia Lodge residential aged care facility. As well as a host of key capital projects, the 2019/20 budget makes provision for planning around the next tranche of key projects for the Shire.
There is more good news – despite increases in some State Government related levies and charges which must be passed on, Shire waste management fees have also been reduced from the previous Shire year.
The 2019/2020 Draft Budget is open for review on the Shire website and hard copies are available at the Shire office on request.
Chief Executive Officer Ben Rose encouraged residents and businesses to provide their feedback on the Shire of Donnybrook Balingup 2019/2020 Draft Budget, with the submission period closing at 5pm on 16 August 2019. Feedback should be addressed to the Chief Executive Officer at the Shire of Donnybrook Balingup, and will be presented to Council for review and consideration before the final Budget is considered for adoption.
