Over 60 children aged 5 years up to 16 years, participated in the September/October Vacation Swim program at Donnybrook Recreation Centre’s indoor pool during the school holidays.
VacSwim has grown from humble beginnings in 1919 when five instructors taught 248 children at three venues in WA, to become the largest vacation swimming program in Australia. In recent years 58,000 plus children have participated yearly in lessons with more than 1,500 qualified instructors at over 200 locations throughout WA.
Centre Manager Jill McLean explained that “VacSwim was one of Donnybrook Recreation Centre’s initial programs and it has grown from strength to strength. Children can join in the fun of learning to swim with for just $1 a day, plus pool entry. It really is an unmissable opportunity!”
VacSwim gives all Western Australians aged between 5 and 17 years the opportunity to participate in a safe, quality swimming and water safety program. Programs run each year in the October and January holidays.
Many local kids such as Stephanie and Leah have been participating in VacSwim in Donnybrook since they were toddlers. They really look forward to it, and are keen to see how much they can improve each year.
