The Shire of Donnybrook – Balingup (The Shire) has developed plans with framework to bring together government, voluntary, and private agencies in a coordinated way to deal with major emergencies through its Local Emergency Management Committee (LEMC). These plans cover the whole spectrum of emergency needs, including prevention, preparedness, response and recovery.
The Shire’s LEMC is a committee established under the Emergency Management Act 2005 that advises and assists the Shire in ensuring that Local Emergency Management Arrangements (LEMA) are established for its district.
The LEMC membership draws on the Shire and other agencies including WA Police Service, Department of Fire and Emergency Services, St John Ambulance, State Emergency Service, DFES Fire and Rescue Service, Department for Child Protection and Family Support, Department of Health, Community Home Care, Department of Parks and Wildlife and Red Cross. Ranger Services is also considered an invaluable additional resource for Emergency Services agencies and are trained in Incident Control procedures.
An Emergency Management Evacuation Plan has also been created by the Shire to deal with bushfires, major road incidents, floods, severe weather, hazardous materials or biosecurity incident, dam break, earthquake or human epidemic.
