Change of Shire Road Name Walters Track, Balingup – Call for Public Comment

The Shire of Donnybrook-Balingup has been approached by a property owner on Walters Track, Balingup asking that the road be officially named through Landgate, due to potential addressing problems with emergency and other services.

Currently the road is Shire named and sign posted as “Walters Track”, however Landgate has informed us that we are unable to use this name due to duplication with “Walter Road” in Balingup and have advised we recommend a new name for the road.

Prior to a new road name being approved, it needs to satisfy all requirements of Landgate’s “Policies and Standards for Geographical Naming in Western Australia”; a copy of this document can be found on Landgate’s website. https://www0.landgate.wa.gov.au/docvault.nsf/web-new/PS_LD/$FILE/Geographic-names-policies.pdf

Road name suggestions put forward to us from members and groups of the Balingup community are:

  • Nelson Road – many years ago the road was signed Nelson Road.
  • Culity Road – in honour of previous landowners in the area.
  • Pigram Road was suggested however, Landgate do not support road/locality naming after living persons.

Should you have any objections to these proposed names being put forward for consideration, please respond to this letter either in writing or by email to records@donnybrook.wa.gov.au by the 10th of August 2018. If no objections are received by this date, these names will be put forward to Geographic Names at Landgate.
