Proposed Intersection Closure Roberts Street Balingup (MRWA)

Mains Roads WA has written to the Shire of Donnybrook-Balingup and proposed that the intersection between Roberts Street and South Western Highway, Balingup be removed and a cul-de-sac be constructed at the Southern end of Roberts street to stop all through traffic.

This intersection closure will be in conjunction with the upgrade to South Western Highway which is currently in early planning stages and construction will not commence for a significant amount of time.

The closure is considered essential to improve traffic safety for road users on South Western Highway by eliminating turning movements at the intersection which has insufficient sight lines and to enable vehicles to safely negotiate traffic entering and exiting the intersection (see plans here).

The Shire has requested that a footpath connection from Roberts Street to South Western Highway be constructed at the same time as the closure.

The Shire is currently considering the request and if you would like to discuss the matter further please contact the Shire’s Works and Services Department  on 9780 4209 for further information.
