Hundreds of locals gathered at the picturesque Donnybrook Amphitheatre on the banks of the Preston River on Friday 10th March, 2017 for the Shire’s annual ‘Thank-a-Volunteer’ BBQ and free Family Concert.
Shire President Angelo Logiudice acknowledged the volunteers stating that, “this event has become one of the Shire’s key opportunities to say ‘thank you’ for the amazing contribution the many volunteers make to the vibrancy and well-being of our community.”
“We have approximately 130 registered clubs, groups and service organisations throughout the Shire. They all exist because of the commitment of enthusiastic and generous volunteers such as yourselves. And each group provides a unique and in valuable service to our community”, Cr Logiudice continued.
“Our sincere thanks must go to Lotterywest and the Donnybrook Branch of the Bendigo Community Bank for their financial support for this event. The Donnybrook Lions Club cooked up a storm and I thank them too for their efforts tonight with the BBQ”, said Cr Logiudice.
An ever popular bouncy castle entertained the kids at the start of the evening along with free face painting as the BBQ kicked off. The Donnybrook Lions Club joined forces with the Shire of Donnybrook Balingup to serve up a fabulous BBQ feast for all of the volunteers in attendance!
Local rising stars, Tinkers Alley and Anam Cara kicked off the entertainment and got the crowd in the mood with some laid back tunes.
With the crowd building to over 600, internationally recognised Marty Putz took to the stage as the main act with his show, Marty’s Party which was full of wacky gadgets and geeky jokes. Anti-gravity cloaks and a human baseball were all part of the mayhem that made this family show a visual sight which appealed to the kid in all of us.
