A. The verge is the strip of land between the road and your property boundary (generally the front fence). The road reserve is under the care, control and management of Council, but is owned by the Crown. Most verges are grassed areas and are voluntarily maintained by residents even though it is not part of their property. As a rule, verge development or improvements by residents are not permitted, except for planting low growing shrubs, grassing and reticulation. Other improvements require a written application from the property owner. Verges fronting public areas are regularly maintained by the Shire. Town site verges are mowed twice a year or as frequently as resources allow. Due to the large areas involved in verges the Shire appreciates the assistance of property owners in maintaining these areas
